Use an Online Calorie Counter to Keep Track of Caloric Intake

An online calorie counter is a great tool to use if you are interested in counting calories and watching how much food you are taking in. My Fitness Pal is one of the best online calorie counters I've seen and I actually use it myself.

Benefits of an Online Calorie Counter

  • Many of them are free - There are some that require money to use, but many online calorie counters are free. Calorie counters that you can carry with you come with a price tag, usually not very expensive but definitely not free.
  • Convenient - An online calorie counter can be accessed from anywhere there is a computer with an internet connection. Users will have their very own registered account that they can sign in and out off. Also, if something you have eaten isn't included in the thousands of foods listed, you can manually add it yourself so those calories will be calculated with the others.
  • Easy to Use - Online calorie counters aren't complicated at all. Simply search for the foods that were eaten during a particular day, enter how many servings and the calories consumed will automatically be calculated. Fat grams, protein and carbohydrate amounts will usually be calculated as well.
  • Reliable - Thousands of people use these same counters. The information that has been added is accurate, making the calorie count a reliable number that will be pretty dead on as far as calorie intake goes.
  • Can Make Printouts - With My Fitness Pal, and probably many other online calorie counters, you can create print-outs of your food diary for that day. You can also print out your physical activity log for the day and keep it as a hard copy in a 3-ring binder or folder if you choose to do so.
  • Includes Fast Foods - Most of the fast food menu items from places like Taco Bell, McDonald's, Pizza Hut and many others, have already been added to the calorie counting system. So even if the fast food you had doesn't include the nutrition information on the package, you can still enter it in. If there is a fast food item that you can't find in the list that you need to add, you can enter it manually using the information from that restaurant's nutrition guide which can usually be found right on their website.

As you can see, there are a number of benefits for using an online calorie counter. Your account can be accessed from anywhere and all information will be stored in your account. If you want hard copies for yourself, they create printable forms of your food diary and physical exercise log as well. And many online calorie counters are free! Watch out for the ones that charge. Free versions will work just fine. Any extra fluff really isn't needed and your hard earned money doesn't need to be spent on something like that. Calorie counting doesn't have to cost anything.
