Petsafe Collar: Train Your Dog to Stop Barking

If you have a dog that seems to have nothing better to do than bark it may be time to train them to stop barking with a Petsafe collar. Petsafe manufactures a number of dog training devices including no bark collars that use 3 different methods of training:

• Ultrasonic
• Static Shock

Many people think that static shock collars are inhumane but they can be very effective in training your dog to stop nuisance barking and they do not cause any harm to your pet. However, if static shock isn't for you there are other methods including citronella spray or the ultrasonic collar that you may want to try instead.

There are a variety of different sprays used in any of the Petsafe collars. You can choose from citronella spray, lemon scent spray and even unscented spray. Some dogs will respond better to one spray over another.

When you buy a new Petsafe collar you will receive the collar itself with a spray bark unit, spray and a battery. The spray bark unit will have a battery indicator on it to let you know when the battery will soon need to be replaced. There is also a low spray indicator and an on/off switch.

A spray collar is just one method to try and stop your dog's nuisance barking. It's important to realize that dogs communicate by barking, but if it has become bothersome for you or your neighbors, a spray collar can help stop excessive barking.

How A Petsafe Spray Collar Works

A petsafe spray collar will be placed on your dog and turned to the on position. The bark unit is made so that only the barking of your dog will set off the spray. Once your dog barks, the unit will send a mist up towards your dog's nose. This will cause a distraction that will stop their barking.

An ultrasonic PetSafe collar emits a high-pitched sound whenever your dog barks. You can purchase two different types of them: one for outdoor use and one for indoor use. You simply set them up and when a dog barks, the dog will hear the annoying sound (which is not heard by humans) and it will help to deter them from barking. These can also be used outdoors in your yard if you have a neighbor with a dog who barks all the time and it will help deter them from barking as well.

Using A PetSafe Ultrasonic Collar

There is also a PetSafe collar that works very well for small dogs. Simply place the collar on your dog and when your dog barks, they will hear the high-pitched noice and cease barking. The PetSafe company believes that the ultrasonic collars work best for small dogs but each dog reacts differently to different things.

This is probably the least favorite type of no bark training device among dog owners but it can be very effective - particularly for larger dogs or those who don't respond well to the spray or ultrasonic training devices.

The PetSafe static collars are completely safe for dogs and there are 10 different intensity levels. Pet owners are instructed to begin at the lowest setting and only move up when their dog isn't responding. You basically want to use the lowest setting that your dog will respond to and cease barking.

When you hear the word "shock" you're probably thinking that it causes pain and harm to your animal. This isn't the case with the PetSafe static collars. What your pet feels is similar to you getting a static shock from touching balloons and certain types of fabrics or rubbing your hands on carpeting and then touching something or someone.

Using A PetSafe Static Collar

There are collars for both large and small dogs so be sure that you purchase your static collar accordingly. Then place the collar on your pet and be sure it's on and that you're using the lowest setting. When your dog barks they will feel the static shock and soon realize that when they bark they are going to feel that sensation so they learn to stop barking.

When you're using a PetSafe collar it shouldn't be used as the sole collar for your dog. PetSafe collars are training devices and should only be used as such. The idea is to use the collars for training purposes so that in the near future you won't have to use the collars or devices any longer in order for your dog to stop nuisance barking.
